How to feed a family of 8 without a stove
For the past few weeks visitors to our home have commented on the smell of gas. Our beautiful but old stove was leaking gas even when the knobs told us that the burners were off. Nicor turned our gas off and the search began to find someone that could fix a 50+ year old oven. So, for the past five days we have been creating unique meals. Oh, and the extra challenge, self-imposed, was to try not to buy any groceries this week. Figured we'd save enough money to offset some of the repair bill. Last night we made scrambled eggs in the electric skillet. Lunch was tomato soup in a large mixing bowl heated in the microwave. No fruit since Monday. Ran out of juice so we resorted to Kool-Aid (ewww!) for breakfast. There was some grumbling about the juicelessness. Later that day our neighbor dropped off some "extra" juice. Emma ran upstairs to tell me the great news. She said that you start taking things for granted. You see God's provision when you don't have. Well, the repairman finally came this evening and he says he can fix the stove and should have the parts by Monday evening. It won't be super cheap but I really didn't want to part with my "stove with character". So grateful!
